BRITISH rock and roll hero Marty Wilde is performing with his band The Wildcats at the Octagon Theatre, Yeovil, today (Sunday).
With a career spanning over 50 years, Wilde was among the first generation of British pop stars to emulate American rock and roll.
From mid 1958 to the end of 1959 he was one of the leading British rock singers, appearing regularly on the BBC programme 6.5 Special and the popular ITV music show Oh Boy!
In the last 1960s and early 1970s he enjoyed success as songwriter, penning hits for The Casuals, Lulu and Status Quo, as well as appearing in musicals such as the West End production of Bye Bye Birdie and several films.
In his songwriter and record producer guise, he also masterminded a string of 1980s hits for his daughter Kim Wilde.
The concert will feature a selection of classic songs from Marty's vaults as he pays homage to people who helped shape British rock and roll, including Teenager in Love, Rubber Ball, Jezabel and Sea of Love.
The music starts at 7.30pm and tickets cost £16 full price.
