Town criers have a lot to shout about!

TWENTY-FOUR town criers from across the region will be converging on Yeovil on Saturday to test their vocal chords on town centre shoppers.

Competitors in the annual Yeovil Town Criers' Competition will as-semble at the Town House in Union Street and will be welcomed by the Mayor.

The draw and judges briefing will then take place and, at 10.15am, the colourful criers will walk to King George Street, form up and parade via the Borough and down Middle Street before arriving at the open air entertainment area in the town's Triangle.

The competition will then start following an opening "cry" from Yeo-vil's town crier Bruce Trigger.

During the morning programme, each competitor will be performing a "cry" based on his or her home town.

The criers will then break for lunch and Yeovil Town Band will perform for the public.

Afterwards, at 3pm, the criers will return to perform a "cry" of their choice and the judges' scores will then be assessed.

The competition will finish at about 4.30pm with a closing "cry" by the ever-popular Bruce.

The announcement of the results will be made at the Mermaid Hotel and Restaurant in the High Street prior to prizegiving.

Prizes will be awarded for the overall winner, the first and second runners-up, the best dressed crier, best dressed couple and best dressed escort.
