CREATING new jobs was among the aims of an initiative run by an organisation set up to promote Somerset.

Inward investment organisation Into Somerset highlighted the exceptional business opportunities within the county to a group of high profile international visitors over the weekend.

The event was part of a visit organised by the Somerset Tourist Association for selected tourism journalists and tour operators, showing them the wonders of Somerset and the many benefits on offer when visiting or relocating here.

Cllr Anne Fraser, chair of Into Somerset, explained to visitors that Somerset is not only the perfect place for a holiday but it is also a great place to work.

She said: “Somerset offers the perfect balance of business and pleasure. It is an ideal location in which to work, live, play and visit. Many businesses that have set up here have become enthused with the wonderful lifestyle that Somerset can offer following a visit or a holiday. I am truly amazed at the number of people I have met who tell me they came on holiday and never went home!”

She outlined how two of the most important factors in the choice of business location are quality of life for families and for employees – and Somerset offers an outstanding lifestyle for both.

Taunton, Yeovil and Bridgwater provide a diverse and affordable range of property, shops, sports and leisure activities. Meanwhile, a network of vibrant market towns and numerous tranquil, rural villages nestled within its hills means the county offers a wide choice of stunning locations for both businesses and families – with property at least 30% cheaper than in London.
