PLANS are well under way to celebrate Burns Night in style at the village hall and raise funds for an Ilminster-based charity.

Traditional Burns Night supper and entertainment will be provided at the hall in Chaffcombe on Friday, January 25, from 7pm ready for a 7.30pm start.

The haggis will be flown in from Scotland for the meal and songs and poems by Robbie Burns will be provided by Sheila Bowman, William Salmon, Peter Lansdown, Maggie Griffiths and Philip Lloyd.

Organiser Peter Lansdown said 60 tickets are available priced £15.

“Sheila and William have wonderful voices and have grown up around the Scottish folk scene, and so this will be a very good evening,” he said. “We did something similar at the Meeting House in Ilminster a few years ago and it was a big success.”

A Burns supper is held each year to celebrate the life and poetry of 18th Century Scottish poet Robert Burns, who was born on January 25, 1759.

Proceeds from the event at Chaffcombe will go towards the Purple Fields Productions group in Ilminster.
