Laura Ellen Bacon willow project at Barrington Court
7:00am Tuesday 10th September 2013 in What's On
ARTIST Laura Ellen Bacon has completed her personal creative contribution to the Make the Most willow project at Barrington Court, near Ilminster.
As one of five internationally-renowned artists working to transform Barrington Court, Laura worked with a local Somerset willow (Flanders Red), while the other installations used Somerset sourced paper, stone, wood and leather.
Make the Most is a ‘Trust New Art’ initiative, supported by the non-profit Somerset Arts Works organisation, in partnership with the National Trust.
The initiative celebrates local materials, and the contribution of local manufacturers, while promoting opportunities for Somerset artists.
The beautiful Tudor Manor house of Barrington Court creates a perfect setting for the artwork and the willow installation has been completed in the manor kitchen, where Laura wanted to reflect the past uses of the kitchen and those that worked within it.
Laura describes the work as “a fog of layers that can be walked within and viewed in detail.”
The project showcases between September 21 and October 6 as part of Somerset Arts Weeks.
