A HOST of charities which support worthy causes from the News area and across the globe will be at the annual Charity Gift and Card Fair at the Meeting House in Ilminster on Friday.

The fund and fair, now in its 27th year, started life as a small card sale in co-founder Wendy Best’s house.

The Philippines crisis will be part of the focus of this year’s market at the arts centre, says organiser Gaynor White.

“Wendy and I were both volunteering – I for the Tear Fund and Wendy for Tradecraft – when we decided that we should join forces to hold a card day,”

she said.

“Since that first one, it’s grown and grown. It’s just so important to support groups that just aren’t able to support themselves, as well as those organisations working in disaster response, such as in the Philippines, and local charities.”

Children’s Hospice South West, Tear Craft, Trade Craft, the RNLI, the Celtic Animal Life Line, Toy Box – supporting street children in Latin America – and the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed in Bangladesh will be among the organisations represented on the day. The event runs from 10am to 4pm.
