A BAWDY musical comedy from the creator of M*A*S*H* goes on stage at Chard’s Guildhall on March 27-29.

Chard Light Operatic Society is staging ‘A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum’ – the inspiration for 1970s TV sitcom ‘Up Pompeii’, starring Frankie Howerd.

Pseudolus (played by Neil Wells) is a lying, cheating slave hoping to win his freedom by helping his young master, Hero (Adam Chudley), to woo Philia, the girl next door (Silvey Webber).

But Philia has already been sold to Miles Gloriosus (Ian Crew) – a far more powerful man.

Heartfelt number ‘Comedy Tonight’ is among the best-known songs of the musical genre, but audiences should also listen out for ‘Everybody Ought To Have A Maid’ and ‘Bring Me My Bride’.

Performances are at 7.30pm, Thursday to Saturday, with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.

Tickets cost £12 in the stalls, and £14 in the balcony and tiers from Barron’s, Holyrood Street, Chard.
