VETERANS of the Second World War are invited to an Ilminster talk, ‘How Wine Helped us to Win the War’, being given on D-Day, June 6.
Wine expert and Ilminster county councillor Linda Vijeh will give the talk at the Shrubbery Hotel.
She said: “Even Churchill himself was heard to say ‘we’re not fighting to save France, we’re fighting to save Champagne!’ ”
The hotel is charging £2 per person for food with the remaining money going to the Royal British Legion.
A wine raffle will feature some of the key winemakers who played a part in the outcome of the war.
Tickets for non-veterans cost £10, including Normandy Cider and ‘rations’.
Book by calling 01460-52108 or email info@shrubberyhotel.com
