TO mark the 100th anniversary of the First World War the Chard Light Operatic Society will be performing MORE Dads' Army at The Guildhall, Chard.
The production, which will be held on November 5-6, will use genuine BBC scripts and well-known characters from this classic comedy to produce a concert party tribute within the show.
The show opens with Mum's Army, the episode where captain Mainwaring decides to get the local ladies involved. Unfortunately it is he who becomes 'involved' leading to some predictably comic scenes.
Mum's Army will be followed by the Walmington-on-Sea War Effort concert, which includes popular songs from the First World War era; with plenty of opportunity for audience participation.
After the interval the second half of the War Effort concert will feature the music of Second World War, with songs from the battlefront as well as wartime favourites that would have been sung by the stars of the day and played on the radio.
The evening ends with another Dad's Army caper - The Floral Dance. This was specially written by Jimmy Perry and David Croft for 'Christmas Night with the Stars' in 1970 and, with no recording having been traced, is the only colour episode that is missing from the video collection.
Tickets cost £8 and are available from Barron's, Holyrood Street. For more information on tickets call 01460-63593
