ILMINSTER Arts Centre is hosting a big folk show this month with four performances showcasing some of the best original and contemporary folk in the West.

The Flying Folk – Four in One event promises to be a memorable night underpinned by stunning musicianship, infectious melodies and original lyrics.

Hattie Briggs is a singer/songwriter brought up on the mellow strains of James Taylor and Eva Cassidy who has been singing for as long as she can remember.

A natural and sensitive performer with a unique, unaffected style, her songs are crafted with a maturity which belies her youth and an honesty which wins over the hearts of any audience.

She has been gigging regularly all over England and is currently on the playlist of a number of local BBC radio stations.

Lazibyrd, South West Music Awards best folk act in 2013, consist of Sharon Martin (vocals/violin/ukelele) and Tom Chapman (guitar/vocals), and play energetic, passionate, beautiful, original folk with clever lyrics.

Their debut album, Under the Sky, has been critically acclaimed and received extensive radio airplay.

Louise Jordan is a multi-instrumentalist and composer who feels no more at home than on the road in her trusty white van.

She has completed seven tours across England, Wales and Scotland, recently venturing into Europe with trips to Denmark, Holland and Germany.

Louise plays guitar, piano and cello, but it is her voice which is most often celebrated as her trademark sound – captivating, powerful and evocative.

Fusion, comprising violinist Jane Norman and guitarist Chris Adams, complete the bill.
