THE Warehouse Theatre in Ilminster will welcome Taunton-based operatic society Somerset Opera next month.

The troupe of about 28 members will bring Patience by Gilbert and Sullivan to the Brewery Lane venue on Thursday, March 19.

Frances Walker from Somerset Opera said: “We mostly do the slightly more serious operas. This is something we have been doing for the last 50 years, touring around with our shows.

“We do one-off performances in various venues like village halls because the demographic quite often do not want to travel to a large venue and then get themselves home again afterwards, and being a one-off show it is great for us because it rarely fails to sell out – and not many groups can say that.

“The theme of the opera is one that originates from the 1800s but was relevant in the 1960s and is relevant today, and that is of a certain group being misunderstood by the establishment of their time, and people’s conceptions of how a certain layer of society should behave.

“There will be a lot of flowers, a lot of nonsense and a certain amount of stiff upper lip.”

Tickets priced £9, concessions £8 and children and students £7 are available from Lanes Garden Shop in Silver Street or from 07943-779880.
