CHARITY shops were the theme as members enjoyed a talk by representatives of the British Heart Foundation (BHF) shop in Chard.

The BHF is the nation's heart charity and the largest independent funder of cardiovascular research. It is supported through donations and about 700 charity shops around the country, making it one of the largest retailers in the UK.

It was interesting to hear about the charity and the good, the bad and the funny side of running a charity shop.

The WI also supports Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW) which aims to offer mutual support, friendship and practical help to women and communities around the world. It is hoped a significant sum can be raised for the charity this year.

A number of birthdays were celebrated at the meeting and a presentation was made to Diana, who is retiring from the choir after many years. She was given cushions with a musical theme.

A lot of exciting and interesting events are planned for the coming months, so anyone looking for a fun, friendly group of women to share interests, outings and activities can look no further than Chard WI.

Members meet on the second Tuesday of each month at the Baptist church rooms, Holyrood Street, Chard, at 7.30pm. Visitors and new members are always welcome. For more information phone Joanne on 01460-68133.

The March meeting is at Barleymows from 4pm-6pm instead of the usual time stated above.
