THE soothing sounds of the sea shanty will be heading to South Petherton next month.

Kimber’s Men are a group of singers specialising in maritime material.

Although shanties are the bulk of their repertoire, it would be unfair to call them simply a ‘shanty group’ because they range through nautical ballads and broadsides to modern songs such as Bob Watson’s Mollymauk and Gordon Lightfoot’s Ballad of Big Blue.

They sing their own interpretations with absolute gusto and some beautiful harmonies. The fivepiece will sing at David Hall on March 13 and tickets cost £17.

Peter Wheeler, music manager at the venue, said: “Without doubt one of the UK’s finest exponents of this type of a cappella singing.

“After their performance in November 2013, we have received many requests for their return. You will not be disappointed!”
