Forest fun at Ham Hill Country Park

CHILDREN and their families are being invited to attend a different type of school on Sunday, July 12, when a free 'Forest School' event is held at Ham Hill Country Park.

The daylong event, supported by South Somerset District Council's Countryside Team, is offering shelter building, rope trails, natural arts and crafts and storytelling activities.

Grace Hall, education and access officer at the Ham Hill Centre said: “Forest School is being introduced into more and moreschools and is becoming increasingly popular.

“It gives children the chance to learn more about nature, get outdoors, use their imaginations and get active.”

She added: “On Sunday, people of all ages will have the opportunity to take part in all sorts of activities led by experienced Forest School leaders, who are part of the Yeovil and Dorset Forest School Cluster group.

“The district council Countryside Team will also be helping to run activities.”

Cllr Sylvia Seal, leisure, culture and well being portfolio holder for the district council, added: “It is these types of activities that bring the outdoors to life.

“Not only can people enjoy a day in the countryside but they can also learn new skills and make the best of a free play opportunity in the district.”

Activity maps are available from the Ham Hill Centre, which is signposted from the main Ham Hill road.

The free event does not require booking and is being held from 10am to 4pm.
