Stewart can show his Yeovil Town colleagues a thing or two

EXPERIENCED Yeovil Town striker Marcus Stewart may be heading towards his 36th birthday later this year and may be the "elder statesman" of the side, but he can still show his younger team-mates a thing or two.

Out of the 46 League One games in the 2007-08 season, Stewart was awarded 35 "starts" in the line-up by Yeovil boss Russell Slade - a number only bettered by defender Terrell Forbes.

There are still question marks as to whether Stewart will be signing a new contract to keep him at Huish Park for another season - but there is no doubt the Glovers' faithful would love to see him again for the new campaign.

Stewart might well be "getting on a bit" now, but his all-round ability, vision and class is abundantly clear to on-looking spectators, and that appreciation was illustrated when he scooped a clutch of player-of-the-season awards before the recent fixture with Leeds United at Huish Park on April 25.

Slade's well-documented nightmare problems with injuries during the past season has been highlighted by the fact that only four players managed to make 30 or more League One "starts" during the campaign - Forbes (38), Stewart (35), and defenders Scott Guyett (34) and Lee Peltier (33).
