Nottingham Forest praise Yeovil Town fans
 |
| Yeovil Town supporters - the best in the land! |
NOTTINGHAM Forest supporters have given huge praise to Yeovil Town fans for the way in which they made their dramatic automatic promotion success even more special.
Forest fans were left in unreserved delight on Saturday when their 3-2 victory over Yeovil at a packed City Ground on the last day of the season was enough to send them back up into the Championship.
But many Forest supporters, who have suffered the "humiliation" of plying their trade in League One for the past three seasons when they were, not so long ago, the Kings of Europe, were left amazed at the sporting gestures of congratulations they received from Yeovil fans who were at the game.
So much so that one Nottingham-based Forest fan contacted me this week asking for the Express to pass on his thanks to the Yeovil supporters for their wonderful gesture.
Ben Whitaker said: "I've only cried twice before watching Forest and that was when we lost the FA Cup Final against Spurs what seems like many years ago now and last year when we lost to your lot in the play-offs."
But he added: "I felt as if I had to get in touch with you and ask you to thank, on my behalf, the Yeovil fans who were at the City Ground on Saturday.
"They were fantastic and stayed on to congratulate the Forest supporters. It was really great to see and was much appreciated.
"Even outside the ground the Yeovil fans were wishing Forest supporters well for next season and shaking our hands.
"It is not often you see things like that in football these days."
Yeovil Town has also received a number of messages from Forest fans wanting to thank the Glovers' travelling supporters.
One Forest fan said: "Following the Forest game with Yeovil last Saturday and our automatic promotion I would like to pass my sincere gratitude and admiration to your supporters that applauded our team at the end of the game and to the hundreds of Yeovil fans who waited outside clapping our fans and shaking our hands.
"That was more moving to me than getting the promotion. Well done to all of you and I hope that you will be promoted soon."
Forest season-ticket holder Les Shaw added: "As a Forest season ticket holder I just wanted to compliment your travelling fans who came to the City Ground and stayed after the final whistle to applaud the Forest team on their lap of honour.
"I know how gutted we all were last year when you spoilt our dream but I thought today's gesture was really nice.
"Good luck for next season."
The "pats on the back all-round" come just 12 months after Yeovil achieved that never-to-be-forgotten heroic 5-2 victory at Forest in the second leg of last season's play-off semi-final which saw the Glovers win 5-4 on aggregate and march onto Wembley for the final.
And Forest fan Sean Hanrahan said: "This message is to each and every proud green and white wearing Yeovil Town supporter who attended then stayed behind to take part in the celebrations at the City Ground Nottingham.
"Take a bow; you are all a credit to your fantastic football club - thank you.
"A special thank you message to the 100 or so Yeovil fans who stood in front of their parked coaches applauding the Forest fans exiting the ground at the end of the celebrations which was about an hour after full time whistle.
"You know who you are and you were brilliant!
"All the best for next season, I will be checking your results, week in week out, with the hope of success for the Glovers."
And Sean added: "Now finally I can erase my awful memories from Friday, May 18, 2007 - one of your finest hours I'm sure."
The messages received by the Forest seem to sum up the official line taken by the Football League and the police authorities that Yeovil Town are blessed with the best set of supporters in the land!
