A MAN killed in a road accident in Ilminster last night (December 17) has been named on Facebook as Liam Taylor from Chard.

A page set up today on the social networking site called 'RIP Liam 'Turbo' Taylor' features a host of tributes to the former Holyrood Community School student, who was since employed as a groundworker.

Among the messages left on the Facebook page is a question from Sophie Winch, who asks 'What happened to him?', to which Melanie Horner replies 'car accident in Ilminster Monday night.'

Police are seeking witnesses to the incident, which happened on the B3168 Station Road around 7.40pm yesterday.

A car driving towards the A303 Southfields roundabout was in the process of negotiating a left bend after crossing the River Isle when it was in collision with a roadside sign and lamp post.

A man travelling in the vehicle sustained serious head injuries and was taken to Frenchay Hospital at Bristol with life threatening head injuries but died this morning (December 18).

The road was closed following the incident to allow collision investigators to make a detailed examination of the scene.

Some of the tributes posted online include one from Thomas Jones, who wrote: "RIP buddy, my condolences go to your whole family."

Chloe Sugg added: "Such sad news can't begin to imagine what you are all going through but you should all be super proud, he was a lovely lad. RIP Liam Taylor xx," while Carley Jade Dunstan wrote: "Still cannot believe it :(, you were too young and never deserved this. My thoughts are with your family. Rest in peace Liam x x x."

Amanda Nicole Raymond summed up the mood when she added: "Sat here for about ten minutes thinking about the right words to say, but nothing seems right.

"So many lives are being taken lately so young it's such a shame. My thoughts are with your family at this sad time so close to Christmas. RIP x."
