Review of the Year: May 2012

WE take a look back at the events of 2012 in the Chard, Ilminster and Crewkerne area. Here is what happened in May 2012.

THE Queen visited South Somerset as part of her Diamond Jubilee Tour where she was met by thousands of people in Yeovil and Crewkerne.

A MEMORIAL service was held for Horton student Jemima Layzell, 13, who died from the effects of a major brain haemorrhage.

PET owners were left distraught after a spate of cat deaths which they feared may have been deliberate poisoning in Chard.

CHARD Mayor, Cllr Cathie Morrison, praised volunteers in the town during the annual parish meeting.

THOUSANDS of people packed the streets of Ilminster as the Olympic Torch came through the town as part of the nationwide torch relay. Holyrood Academy teacher Jason Hedaux carried the flame in Somerton, while Chard milkman James Winter had the same honour in Minehead.

ILMINSTER Town FC won the First Division championship in the Errea Somerset County League.

RUNNERS took part in the annual Run in the Wild 10k race at Cricket St Thomas organised by the Chard Road Runners.

DEVELOPERS unveiled plans to build a housing estate off of Oaklands Avenue, Chard, during an exhibition at the Guildhall in the town.
