Review of the Year: October 2012

WE take a look back at the events of 2012 in the Chard, Ilminster and Crewkerne area. Here is what happened in October 2012.

THERE was plenty of cheers at the annual Carnival processions in Ilminster and Chard.

A SIX-MONTH-OLD baby escaped with its life after being involved in a head-on car crash at Bay Hill, near Dillington, not long after the completion of the Ilminster Carnival. The two-car collision saw four helicopters take casualties to hospitals across the South-West.

FAMILY and friends of 15-year-old Ryan Clarke, better known as Ryan Sparks, of Chard, collapsed and died as a result of a severe asthma attack.

ASHILL man Geoffrey Counsell was charged with the manslaughter of seven people who died in the pile-up on the M5 near Taunton in November 2011.

TAXI driver Kevin Wood thought he was going to die when a gang attacked him in Chard late at night.

PARALYSED George Pas, of Chard, saw him walking on air – literally – when he took part in a tandem skydive.

A GIRL, 15, was the victim of a sexual assault in Redstart Park, Chard.

NATASHA Clarke, of Chard, showed she had plenty of Girl Power after narrowly missing out on a top-threeplace in the 2012 Britain’s Strongest Woman competition.
