Review of the Year: November 2012
6:40pm Monday 31st December 2012 in News
WE take a look back at the events of 2012 in the Chard, Ilminster and Crewkerne area. Here is what happened in November 2012.
NEARLY 300 athletes took part in the annual Ilminster Lions 10k race – which was started by Olympic torchbearer Tonia White. There was a minute’s silence ahead of the race in memory of those who had been killed in the horrific M5 crash near Taunton a year previously. Tonia’s parents were among the seven people who died that night.
REMEMBRANCE Day services and commemoration events were held across the country including those at Crewkerne, Chard and Ilminster.
GEMINI Carnival Club, of Ilminster, were crowned joint champions of Somerset along with Bridgwater-based Gremlins CC.
REV Nigel Done was given a warm welcome at the Minster as the new vicar of Ilminster.
PEOPLE of all ages and from all walks of life helped to do their bit for charity by taking part in the annual Children in Need appeal.
THE countdown to the festive season got underway with the switching-on of the Christmas lights in Ilminster, Crewkerne and Chard.
THE Chard, Ilminster and Crewkerne area once again suffered flooding problems following torrential downpours.
FAMILY and friends of Chard murder victim Catherine Wells-Burr was left angry when floral tributes at the site where her body was discovered were swept up by a council workman. South Somerset District Council later apologised for its actions.
