Doorstep callers warning
7:00am Tuesday 1st January 2013 in News
PEOPLE in South Somerset are being warned to be wary of unexpected callers who offer to do work on their gardens or properties.
The advice comes after several door-to-door calls in the Park View area of Crewkerne on December 11.
It is believed that four men, possibly in two vehicles, called at homes offering garden services.
One of the vehicles was described as a long wheelbase flat-bed truck with double cab. The truck was black with a white cab which had a green tree motif on the driver’s side of the vehicle.
PCSO Michelle Haimes said: “We are asking anyone with information about these callers to contact us and are also encouraging people to be vigilant about unexpected visitors.
“It is not illegal to call door to door offering garden or other services but paperwork must be provided and there is a seven-day cooling-off period for any work agreed to.
“We would always advise anyone offered this kind of work never to agree to the work on the spot. Always gets three quotes in writing from reputable companies and speak to a family member or friend before making a decision.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Crewkerne beat team on 101 or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555111 – it never asks for a name or trace calls.
