AROUND ten tonnes of scrap metal were destroyed by fire yesterday during an incident in Chard.

The alarm was raised at just before 1.30pm to a scrap yard in Beeching Close - near to the waste recycling centre - and firefighters got to work on dealing with the blaze.

Three fire engines were called out to the yard which deals with scrapped cars.

A spokesman for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: “The cause of the fire is thought to be accidental.”
