Empire medal for Val

THE chairman of governors at Tatworth Primary School has been congratulated by staff and pupils on being awarded the British Empire Medal in the New Year Hon-ours List.

Val Joslin has been honoured in recognition of her services to the ‘community in Tatworth.’ As most people in Tatworth will know, Val has been actively involved in village life for many years and all agree that the honour is richly deserved.

The head teacher at Tatworth, David Knight, said: “Val has been a governor at the school for 35 years and in the summer of 2011 was very instrumental in leading the drive for the school to convert to academy status.”

Val, who is also heavily invol-ved in the Tatworth Playing Fields group and the village pantomime society, said she was extremely honoured to be awarded the BEM.

She will be attending a ceremony later this year to receive the medal, which is scheduled to be given to her by Lady Elizabeth Gass, Lord Lieutenant of Somer-set.

Mrs Joslin visited Tatworth school for the first time last week after the announcement of her award, and she was congratulated by pupils and staff on her well-deserved honour.
