Arts centre opens doors on new year
2:00pm Sunday 3rd February 2013 in News
ILMINSTER Arts Centre is up and running for 2013 after a highly successful reopening.
Visitors poured through the doors last week to see refurbishment work carried out over the Christmas break. The kitchen was upgraded, new lighting installed in the gallery and the arts centre painted.
Mayor of Ilminster Cllr Roger Swann accepted on behalf of the centre 28 pennants South Somerset Embroiderers’ Guild members had made depicting aspects of town life.
Cllr Swann also met artists successful in the arts centre’s 2012 open art competition who had their work on display in the gallery area.
Arts centre administrator Stephanie Snowdon said: “It was an amazing day and we had loads of people through the doors.”
The arts centre in East Street has its opening antiques and vintage collectables fair of the year on Saturday. It is open from 9.30am to 3.30pm and admission is free. Stallholders pay £15 for a table and the money raised helps keep the arts centre open.
The arts centre also plays host to a popular long-running monthly local craft and produce market on the first Saturday of the month.
Anyone interested in having a stall at the antiques fair or the monthly market should call 01460-54973.
