Mayor digs in for apple tree

ILMINSTER Mayor Cllr Roger Swann got out his spade  to do his bit for the environment and, in particular, the apple tree.

Somerset has a long association with the apple but over time many orchards have disappeared.

Saplings of native species have been planted at many open spaces around the area but few have been planted of apple varieties.

Cllr Swann, with Tony Jones, Cllr John Pallister and Corry Samway, trudged up Herne Hill on Monday to plant a ceremonial Bramley Apple Tree.
