Mayors board unveiled at the Guildhall

A BOARD containing all the names of Chard Town Council’s Mayors since 1974 has been unveiled at the Guildhall.

Current Mayor Cllr Cathie Morrison was delighted to welcome former Mayors such as Jill Shortland, Tony Prior, Chloe Brice and John Brice to the town hall for the unveiling, while family members of other past Mayors were also present to represent the late David Hill, Jean Smith and Mervyn Ball.

Cllr Morrison was pleased Chard finally had its mayoral board to recognise people who had served the town.

She joked that the writing was now ‘on the wall,’ for her as she is inscribed as serving from 2011-13, to indicate she will not be seeking another term of office come May and Mayor change-over.

The roll of honour is: 1974-75 Robert Farrow; 1975-77 Maurice Lillington; 1977-79 Mervyn Ball; 1979-81 James Evans; 1981-83 Mervyn Ball; 1983-85 Tony Prior; 1985-87 Chloe Brice; 1987-89 Winifred Chubb; 1989-91 Brian Mooney; 1991-93 Leslie Brice; 1993-95 Judith Brookes; 1995-97 David Hill; 1997-99 Barbara Mooney; 1999-2002 Jean Smith; 2002-04 John Malcolm; 2004-05 Tony Prior; 2006 John Malcolm; 2006-09 Martin Wale; 2009-11 Jill Shortland; 2011-13 Cathie Morrison.
