Council says YES to new care home
10:11am Thursday 21st February 2013 in News
PLANS to build a 68-bedroom care home in Chard, which will create much-needed jobs, were last night given the go-ahead by South Somerset District Council.
Abbey Manor Developments Ltd gained support from members of the council’s Area West committee during last night’s meeting at the Guildhall in Chard.
The care home along with a housing development of 41 ‘affordable’ homes will be built on land off Thorndun Park Drive at the entrance to the Chard Business Park on the main A358 into the town.
The applicants have said that the care home could generate as many as 70 full-time equivalent jobs for the area.
Council leader, Cllr Ric Pallister, who supported the proposals, said: “This application provides employment, a care home and affordable housing – all of which is needed.”
