Council says YES to open space

Members of South Somerset District Council’s Area West committee last night agreed at a meeting at the Guildhall in Chard that the site – known as Plot 5 – could be used for public open space.

Councillors were told that the unsuitable nature of the site, due to it having a number of protected trees, had made it difficult to attract businesses despite an extensive 15-year marketing campaign by the council’s economic development department.

Cllr Jenny Kenton, who has long argued for the land to be used as a play area for people living near to the site, said: “I’m overjoyed to see this happen.”
