A MAN needed medical treatment last night for smoke inhalation after a fire broke out at Bartlett Park Garage on Thorndun Park Drive in Chard.
The Fire Service received numerous calls from people last night at just after 9pm with reports of what they thought was a building on fire on the Chard Business Park.
Two fire engines from Chard were sent out and on the way they asked for a further two crews to be sent from Ilminster and Crewkerne, along with a command support unit and back-up fire engine from Street.
But when the officers arrived they discovered that the building was not involved, but was in fact a fire involving a large quantity of tyres and a derelict vehicle.
Firefighters got the situation under control, while an ambulance was requested after a 48-year-old man from a neighbouring property suffered smoke inhalation.
A Fire Service spokesman said: “The cause of the fire is still under investigation by our officers and the police.”
