Motorists warned to beware following spate in diesel thefts
6:13pm Thursday 28th February 2013 in News By Nick Wakefield
POLICE are warning business owners to make sure their diesel is safe following an increase in fuel thefts. In the past six weeks there have been several diesel thefts from businesses on industrial estates in the Taunton, Highbridge and Bridgwater areas. In each case diesel has been stolen from either a vehicle fuel tank or a larger tank used to fill vehicles. The crimes include: - Three thefts of diesel from vehicles in Bindon Road, Taunton this month.
- Two thefts of diesel from fuel tanks in Isleport Business Park in Highbridge in January and Feburary.
- Diesel stolen from lorries in Priorswod Road in Taunton overnight between February 26 and 27.
All the thefts are being investigated and officers would like to hear from anyone who witnessed any of the crimes or saw people acting suspiciously in industrial estates. An appeal has also gone out to report anyone selling diesel at suspiciously low prices or in otherwise suspicious circumstances.
To help police, contact DC Becky Maddison on 101, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
