Logan's torch completes an amazing journey
AN Olympic-style torch made out of paper and card by a Chard schoolboy has finally completed its amazing journey around the country.
Logan McKerrow, then aged five, made an Olympic Torch at school in May last year and put it on eBay to see if he could sell it.
His initial seven-day listing saw the torch sold for £21 and Logan decided the money should go to the Let’s Hear it for Deaf Children Campaign run by Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.
The winning bidder relisted the torch on eBay and Logan’s very own Torch Relay began.
The torch has raised £31,438.53 for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People and been bought on eBay by 40 people, travelling 6,180 miles around the country.
Proud mum Kerry said: “It has been amazing and we can’t thank people enough for their support and generosity.
“Never in a million years did we think that this would happen when we first put Logan’s torch on eBay.”
It has been an incredible ten months for the family with television appearances, award ceremonies and special visits – including a trip to No 10 Downing Street to meet Prime Minister David Cameron and football star David Beckham.
Logan’s torch is now back in Chard having completed its relay but donations atre still being accepted at www.justgiving.com/lets-hear-it-for-deaf-children.
Logan is off to London tomorrow (Thursday) after being short-listed for an award with the Charity Staff Foundation. The awards celebrate outstanding dedication and achievements made by charity staff and volunteers across the UK.
