Carnival cheer for groups

CARNIVAL organisations in Chard and Ilminster have handed out cheques worth about £6,000 to charities and groups.

Ilminster Carnival Committee met at the Shrubbery Hotel to present £1,000 each to the Meadows medical centre and the Summervale surgery.

The Vaughan Lee House residential care home, St John Ambulance and Ilminster Fire Brigade each received £300 from money raised from last year’s Carnival parade in Ilminster.

It was then Chard Carnival Committee’s turn to spread some financial cheer during a fundraising coffee morning at Chard Baptist Church in Holyrood Street.

Carnival members presented £1,000 each to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and Headway Somerset, and £250 to St John Ambulance with proceeds from last year’s procession.

The committee also made donations to Chard Concert Brass, Eclipse Carnival Club, Chard Town Team, Care for Casualties, Zem Carnival Club, Chard Museum, Chard Rainbows, Chard Street Pastors, Chard Boys’ Brigade, Forefront Community Church and the Chard Watch Project – the proceeds of last summer’s Jubilee events in Chard.

The committee handed out in total cheques worth more than £3,000.
