ENTRIES are flying in for our competition to design a county flag for Somerset and win yourself £250.

The County Gazette has joined Pardoes solicitors to launch the competition to create a flag after it emerged that Somerset is the only county in the West Country not to have one.

Pardoes head of marketing Nigel Muers-Raby said: “We know the people of Somerset have real creative talent and we look forward to seeing their entries.”

Entries received so far include work inspired by apples and colours of the Somerset countryside - as well as the all-important dragon.

Design your flag on A4 paper. Entries should be sent to the County Gazette office in St James Street, Taunton TA1 1JR, or can be handed in at the offices of Pardoes in West Quay House, Northgate, Bridgwater TA6 3EU or Glenthorne House, 38 Princes Street, Yeovil BA20 1EJ.

Entries can also be scanned and emailed to flag@countygazette.co.uk

The deadline is May 22. Include your name, address, age and daytime phone number.

Judges will meet to shortlist entries, after which the final designs will be published for the people of Somerset to choose their favourite in a public vote.

The winner’s design will be unfurled at a ceremony in July and they will receive a £250.
