MORE than 300 opponents of the controversial badger cull in parts of Somerset marched through Taunton on Saturday (September 7) to protest against the policy.

The event, organised as part of the Somerset Badger Patrols, was carried out peacefully and protestors marched through the town with banners before joining a rally.

Queen guitarist, Brian May, also took part in a wounded badger patrol walk near Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, on Friday.

As part of a six-week Government pilot running in West Somerset and Gloucestershire, over 5,000 badgers are to be shot in a bid to curb bovine TB.

Mr May is opposed to the policy of culling badgers and set up an e-petition earlier this year, calling on the government to halt the pilot.

Opponents of the cull say it would be more humane and effective to vaccinate the badgers instead.
