MALE drug-poisoning deaths across England and Wales fell in 2012 from the year before, while female deaths increased.
The highest proportion of those who died were in the 30-39 age bracket. In the South West, the mortality rate per million of the population in 2012 for registered deaths related to drug misuse was 29.2 – higher than the national average of 25.4 in England.
The findings, relating to both legal and illegal drugs, were published by the Office for National Statistics.
