1:30pm Friday 1st November 2013 in News
THE Friends of Yeovil Hospital have raised £978 for the benefit of all patients at Yeovil Hospital.
Funds will be put towards the cost of equipment and services not readily available on the NHS.
The Chris Parker quiz was held at Yeovil College and the winning team was ‘Charlie’s Angels’: Charles Hamilton, Martin Clark, Cathy Abram and Howard Pell.
In second place was ‘The Parrett Crew’ and in third place was a hospital team, ‘Shaken not Stirred’.
25 teams took part in total, including teams from Yeovil Hospital, the Yeovil Progressive Science Lodge, Soroptomists International, Yeovil Inner Wheel together with friends, village teams and independent groups.
This year The Friends have supported ongoing specialist work done to help patients with dementia, including the live music and art programme which helps to improve the healing environment.
They have also been active in supporting the fundraising for the Special Care Baby Unit.
Chairman of The Friends, Anne Bennett, said: “It was good to see some new teams this year taking part in the quiz and enjoying the evening.
"The Friends enjoy their fundraising activities and we take our responsibilities very seriously. Local people are increasingly interested in how their donations are spent and seem to feel the Friends do a good job.
"From October 2012 to September 2013, The Friends have disbursed a record figure of £234,179.00, nearly a quarter of a million pounds, for equipment and services at Yeovil District Hospital.”
During the past year, The Friends have donated £48,591 for another Endoscopy scope guide enabling patients to be treated more comfortably; £6,750 for a bladder scanner; £18,416 for two Foetal Monitors; £5,000 for Patient Comfort packs for emergency admissions and £4,215 for three special chairs for the plaster room.
The Friends Hospital Shop and Trolley Service are currently seeking volunteers which enable the profits to be donated to the hospital for much-needed equipment and other amenities which directly benefit patients.
