HUNDREDS of people came to Chard on Friday to see the Christmas lights illuminated – and much more.

Attractions included a craft fair, seasonal food stalls selling hot chestnuts and sweets, and the carnival van, and bouncy castles and bungee trampolines in Fore Street.

Members of the Kelly Leigh School of Dance led a warm-up session ahead of the Santa Run, which saw more than 50 people of all ages dressed in Santa suits make their way round the town centre route.

Mayor Cllr Jenny Kenton switched on the spectacular lights before guests were treated to musical performances.

Jason Baker, vice-chairman of Chard Town Team and one of the organisers, said: “It went really well – everything went pretty much as we’d hoped.

“The Santa Run was really popular – everyone looked great.

“More than 500 people came along to the evening and we would like to thank everyone for their support. The town was absolutely packed.”
