PARENTS at Chard School have rallied round to save it from closure.

Governors called the school's future into question on Monday (December 9), telling staff and parents at an emergency meeting that it was in financial trouble.

A new steering committee headed by Lindsay Rossiter has already made progress, with an important proviso to the school's survival being to retain current pupil numbers until the end of the academic year.

They have praised the commitment and hard work of staff and aim to have completed a full analysis of the school mid-January, when they should be in a position to propose a plan for its long-term future with some new governors on board.

Ideas, suggestions and pledges have already flooded in, meaning Chard School can now be more optimistic of starting the next academic year on a sound footing.

Head teacher Jane Bruce said: “It’s an honour for me to lead this wonderful school with such a loyal and supportive following of both parents and staff.

"It is business as usual for us this week as we gear up to the end of term with our carol concert and nursery nativity and I am looking forward to welcoming children, parents and staff back for an eventful and productive term in January.”
