New principal at Yeovil College

Yeovil Express: JOHN Evans. JOHN Evans.

THE trustees and governors at Yeovil College are delighted to officially announce the appointment of John Evans as principal from January 2014.

He will succeed the current principal, James Hampton, who will be retiring from his position after ten years.

After graduating from Garnett College, Roehampton with a Cert Ed, John embarked on his career in further education, starting as a lecturer in Motor Vehicle training at Farnborough College, Hampshire and then continuing on to a similar role at Bridgwater College in 1989.

John went on to successfully develop the college’s Motor Vehicle department before becoming head of technology at South Devon College in 2003.

His most recent role was as vice principal of Swindon College.

John, who was born in Bridgwater and has lived most of his life in Somerset, feels he has a close connection to the area and understands the role that an inspiring and outstanding college can play in the local and business community.

John said: “I am delighted to have been successful in my application. I have always strived to be principal one day and so this role is perfect in so many ways.

"I am looking forward to the opportunity of building on the growth and success that Yeovil College has already achieved and working closely with students, staff and trustees from January 2014 to ultimately make Yeovil College the first choice for all learners in the region.

"Both of my eldest sons had happy memories of attending Yeovil College and have gone on to create successful careers for themselves.

"It is essential that we continue to grow the College’s reputation and deliver a quality product which will enable the College to grow its learner numbers of the next few years.”
