ARTWORK created by students at Swanmead School, in Ilminster, has won the Consortium School Display of the Year.

The ‘Mexican Day of the Dead’ display won the secondary education category in the competition, and with it £1,000 to spend on art equipment in the school.

Daniel Peters, from The Consortium, said: “It was absolutely fantastic and the decision was quite unanimous – many congratulations on a fantastic display.”

Head of art, Alison Rose, who oversaw last year’s Year 8 students’ work on the project, is delighted with their achievement.

She said: “I’m absolutely thrilled and delighted that the art department display, ‘Mexican Day of The Dead’, has won the competition.

“The pupils were very well motivated and inspired by the traditions of the Mexican Day of the Dead festival to create their own superb results and the artwork has produced a great deal of interest while on display in the school’s foyer.

“I am very grateful to The Consortium for recognising the pupils’ work in this way and I shall thoroughly enjoy choosing art materials of up to a staggering £1,000 for the art department.”
