South Somerset District Council approves grants
1:00pm Tuesday 24th December 2013 in News
SOUTH Somerset District Council’s Area East Committee last week approved two capital grants from Kingsdon Parish Council and Castle Cary’s Eat Cary project.
South Somerset District Council supports and helps to deliver community projects that are sponsored by parishes and voluntary community organisations in the towns and villages across the district.
Kingsdon Parish Council Committee applied for a grant towards improving children’s play equipment situated on the Kingsdon village field.
Area East Committee Members agreed to contribute £7,370 from the Community & Leisure Capital Budget to Kingsdon Parish Council towards the cost of installing new play equipment.
Castle Cary Eat Cary is a relatively new group established to improve local horticultural skills, enhance community cohesion and promote the growing of fruit and vegetables and the preparation of healthy food.
Area East Committee Members agreed to contribute £4,482 from the Community & Leisure Capital Budget to Eat Cary towards establishing a community garden.
Councillor Nick Weeks, Area East Chairman said, “The area committee unanimously agreed to award grants to these projects which clearly demonstrate the hard work that is being done to improve the facilities and services in our area.
"Area East has a strong track record of supporting community led projects with both grants and with advice and guidance but a lot of these improvements couldn’t happen without the volunteer effort in our towns and villages.”
