PEOPLE came together to celebrate the completion of a giant Big Blanket.

More than 8,000 individual squares were knitted and made into 58 blankets to raise funds for the Flying Colours Appeal at Yeovil Women's Hospital.

Residents and staff at Yarlington Housing Group's retirement living schemes knitted and sewed together the individual squares to make the Big Blanket.

The initiative was started in March to celebrate National Bed Month, an event dedicated to the importance of getting a good night's rest.

Jane Ward, retirement living and supported housing team leader, said: “This has been a fantastic project - we never thought we would get the incredible response we did.”

THE three people found guilty of murdering Catherine Wells-Burr from Chard were sentenced to 32 years each in prison after a seven-week trial.

Catherine's boyfriend, Rafal Nowak, 31, his ex-girlfriend, Anna Lagwinowicz, 32, and her uncle, Tadevsz Dmytryszyn, 38, received the news after Mrs Justice Sharp ruled it was a murder motivated by financial gain.

To Nowak, she said: “You are unscrupulous, cold-hearted and ruthless. Your only emotion has been for yourself.”

The judge praised the 'painstaking' police investigation, led by DCI Simon Crisp, and the 'quiet dignity' shown by the Wells-Burr family throughout the trial.

She added: “While this sentence will never bring Catherine back, I hope it goes some way in providing some closure knowing that justice has been done.”
