A FUNDRAISING campaign brought a potentially life-saving heart machine to Tatworth Primary School.

Linda Kellaway, who works at the school, had been supporting the Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome group (SADS UK) in its Big Shock campaign to place defibrillators in schools.

Linda became involved in the campaign because of her son, Charlie, suffering from a rare heart defect.

“I would like to thank everyone who has supported the fundraising - we couldn't have done it without you,” she said.

Linda said fundraising had been such a success that other schools in the area were also to receive machines, each of which costs about £2,000.

FORMER Prime Minister Sir John Major popped into Monks Yard at Horton Cross for lunch.

Sir John, who succeeded Margaret Thatcher at Number Ten for the Conservatives in 1990 before being beaten by Labour at the 1997 General Election, was accompanied by security guards on Sunday, July 22, for a quick bite to eat.

Dean Holling, senior manager at Monks Yard, told the News: “He seemed like a nice guy and his security commented on the lovely food, which was nice!”

It was not the first time the Conservative hierarchy has chosen the Ilminster area as a destination to eat - David Cameron and his family had a bit to eat on their way down to Cornwall in 2010.
