THE manager of the Sue Ryder charity shop in Chard showed she had plenty of mowing power.

While mechanical machines may be the normal method of cutting grass, Sarah Haskins mowed her way across the pitch at Chard Rugby Club with just a hand mower.

It may have taken her several hours of hard work - but it was worth it in the end with all money being raised going towards Sue Ryder's national Ride for Ryder appeal.

The Deputy Mayor, Cllr Garry Shortland, said: “Sarah is an inspiration to the people of Chard - well done and it was an honour to start you off.”

AN ARMED robbery shocked the people of Ilminster after a gun-wielding man confronted a security guard.

The raider and his accomplice, who was parked in a get-away car, made off with a 'significant amount of money' in the incident outside the Spar shop and petrol station in Station Road.

Shocked witnesses included staff and customers, none of whom were injured in the robbery.

John McKinnon, who owns the Spar shop, said: “The fact that everyone is safe is the only redeeming feature about the matter.

“It's very much a community store and we are so grateful to customers for their support.”
