A LORRY driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after a crash on the notorious Ilminster bypass claimed a man's life.

Paul Jewkes, 52, of Clevedon, died after the Vauxhall Corsa he was travelling in was in collision with a white flat bed lorry on the A303 at Boxstone Hill.

Two other vehicles were involved and three other casualties were taken to Yeovil District Hospital.

Ilminster Mayor Cllr Emma Jane Taylor said: “While the town council is eager to ensure that appropriate safety measures are in place on the A303, as we don't have the full facts about the incident, nor indeed are we the authority responsible for road safety, it would be wrong of us to comment in any detail.”

AN incredible milestone was reached by Swanmead School's secretary.

Ann Kivett celebrated 25 years at the school after starting work there in October 1988.

She has worked as a typist, secretary, clerk to the governors and, more recently, personal assistant to head teacher Mark Walker.

Mrs Kivett said: “When I came for my interview as clerical assistant with head teacher David Smith and chair of governors Renee Hatfield I'd have never dreamt that 25 years later I'd still be at Swanmead.

“I work with a fantastic team of people, and that's why I'm still here.”
