STUDENTS at Maiden Beech Academy in Crewkerne are looking forward to using facilities at the new humanities building, now officially open after nine months in the making.

David Laws – MP for Yeovil and Schools Minister – was on hand to cut the ribbon.

The project was funded by the Education Funding Agency through an Academy Capital Maintenance Fund grant and school funds and the new building replaces two temporary classrooms.

It consists of three classrooms and a new technology suite to update the school’s ICT facilities at the school, which will allow one of the existing ICT rooms to be converted to a food technology room in the near future.

Celebrating the opening were governors, architect Ian Pamplin and representatives for the builders, as well as members of the school council, Year 8 prefect team, head teacher Steve Smith and other Academy staff.
