Chard street to be named after former mayor
A POPULAR former Chard mayor will be posthumously honoured by having a new road named after him.
Dave Hill died in 2011 while serving on Chard Town Council and current members felt it would be a fitting tribute to propose the road, part of the new development being built off Jarman Way, be called David Way in his memory.
His daughter Lorraine said: “I am extremely proud and honoured that the town of Chard, for which my Dad cared for so passionately, has paid this tribute to him.”
Dave was involved in a range of projects during his 24 years as a town councillor. Cllr Martin Wale said: “Dave was involved in nearly every aspect of our town.
“Apart from being mayor he chaired numerous organisations and societies which benefited all ages in our community – Crowshute House, Chard in Bloom and Chard 2000 are a few examples.
“Dave was essentially a quiet man but when he did give his opinion it was always measured, fair and only had the interests of the people of Chard at heart.
“He never complained and was an example to us all who were lucky enough to know him.”
Cllr Dave Bulmer added: “Dave Hill was much respected and regarded as a real gentleman when conducting his town council duties.
“As a fellow councillor I have very fond memories of Dave.
“He always worked in a constructive and courteous way – it is therefore appropriate that Chard Town Council remembers him by naming a street after him.”
