A STUDENT from Yeovil has received a prestigious scholarship from the University of Lincoln in recognition of her outstanding academic achievements.

First year undergraduates from across the university’s three academic colleges attended an awards ceremony hosted by Vice Chancellor Professor Mary Stuart where nine Excellence Scholarships and the flagship Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship were presented.

Charlotte Hughes, 19, from Yeovil, is now in the first year of her BSc (Hons) Forensic Science degree programme at the university.

She said: “It is really exciting to receive this scholarship. All of the winners are from such a broad range of subject areas, so it is an honour to be selected, and it will certainly help with everyday living costs like accommodation.”

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Professor Mary Stuart said: “The presentation of the Excellence and Vice Chancellor’s Scholarships represents a very special moment for us all here at the University of Lincoln, when we acknowledge the successes of our newest undergraduate students.

“At Lincoln we firmly believe that the experience of higher education is one to be celebrated, and these scholarships provide commendable recipients with the means to continue their learning and reach their full potential.

"We encourage all of our students to appreciate every opportunity that comes to them during their academic careers, and with the support of these scholarships, we hope that these very talented individuals go forward and continue to act as excellent role models for their peers.”
