Great Wall of China trek for Ilminster woman
AN intrepid explorer will walk the Great Wall of China to raise money for a cause close to her heart.
Emilee Rolls, 22, of Ilminster, has started training ahead of a 90-mile trek of the wall, which will take six days to complete.
The former Swanmead School student, who looks after elderly people for Somerset Care, chose to raise funds for The Alzheimer’s Society.
She said: “I wanted to do a challenge that was completely different from what other people do and I knew to raise money I had to do something that is not easy.”
Emilee’s great-uncle suffered from Alzheimer’s and she hopes to raise £3,100 from the challenge, which would help the charity pay for 100 people to attend a Singing for the Brain session.
The sessions help to bring people together in a friendly and stimulating social environment and hidden in the fun are activities which build on well-known song and music memories.
Emilee is holding fundraising events for her campaign including a bingo night at Muchelney House in Ilminster on Friday, April 4, starting at 7.30pm. Tickets are £1 a book including ten games, raffle, tea and cake.
She will hold an Easter coffee morning at the same venue on Monday, April 21.
A fun day will be held at Donyatt Bowling Club with pony rides, bouncy castles, live music, stalls, food and drink on Saturday, July 5, from 2pm.
Anyone who can help Emilee or who would like to donate should call 07891-454548 or visit her fundraising page by going to www.chardandilminsternews.co.uk and clicking on the link on the story.
