A372 Langport Road to re-open today after flooding
Updated 1:10pm Wednesday 26th March 2014 in News
THE A372 Langport Road at Seven Bends is set to reopen at 5pm today (March 26) as repairs by Somerset County Council’s highways engineers near completion.
The road had been badly damaged by fast-flowing flood water which removed the edge of the highway over a substantial distance.
It remained closed to protect public safety following the removal of temporary pumps at Beer Wall near Aller by the Environment Agency.
However, after intensive working including over the weekend, the main areas of concern have now been fixed and the road has been swept and patched, leaving only a short section to finish under temporary traffic light control.
Final repairs, road markings and a general tidy-up will take place over the next few days.
Cllr Harvey Siggs, Somerset County Council cabinet member for highways, said: “The power of flowing water can have an enormous impact on roads and it caused significant damage to the A372.
“We’ve been working hard on repairs and I’m delighted the road has now been passed as safe to reopen.
“This is the last major A road to reopen and shows that Somerset’s recovery is now well under way.
"I’d like to thank drivers for their patience, and also thank all the highways teams for working so tirelessly in very tough conditions over the past few months.”
